Since 1998, he has been Editor-In-Chief of Allen’s Trademark Digest (ATD) a well-known publication in the trademark registration world. He oversees the publication of a monthly digest of Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) decisions. This involves summarizing 60 or so cases issued per month by the TTAB and producing a monthly publication which is published by Wolters Kluwer. From over 20 years of experience reviewing TTAB decisions, he is well prepared to represent you before the USPTO.
He received his BA from the University of Virginia in January 1982. He graduated with a JD from the University of Richmond Law school in 1985 and passed the New York bar and was admitted to practice that same year. After graduation he spent a year (1985-1986) working for the Honorable James C. Cacheris in the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
In the fall of 1986, he moved to Boston and worked for Wolf Greenfield PC and pursued his Masters in Engineering degree at Boston University in the LEAP (late entry accelerated) program. While not completing the degree, he accumulated enough hours to constitute the equivalent of an engineering degree and took the USPTO Patent Attorney Exam.
Many of Griff's clients come from the trades or real estate industry as he is a licensed Master Plumber and Real Estate Broker. He has worked in two engineering firms, a publishing company, and for a plumbing and heating contractor. In 2010, he founded and launched a successful plumbing and heating contracting business which is ongoing today. In 2015 he received his residential salesperson license and in 2019 became a licensed broker. He has been involved with subdivisions in Kent County Maryland, Fauquier County Virginia, Rappahannock County Virginia, and Loudoun County Virginia. In addition, he has managed properties in Georgetown DC where he was on the board of the Georgetown Business Improvement District.
